Water efficiency begins before water reaches an irrigation line. Soil structure, pore space, and aggregate stability influence infiltration, movement, and storage in the root zone.
Organic matter and water
The Food and Agriculture Organization notes that soil organic matter supports structure, water storage and filtering, and habitat for soil organisms. NRCS also connects better structure with greater infiltration and reduced runoff.
Why is “water saving” not enough?
Any saving requires a measured baseline and clear context: soil type, crop, climate, water quality, irrigation design, and starting condition. A general principle should never become a performance promise for a product or project.
Application outcomes remain specific to site data and approved technical review.
